Establishment of Gandhi Medical College
Gandhi Medical College was established on 14th September 1954. The college is the second oldest medical college in Hyderabad, the Osmania Medical College being the first one.

Nomenclature of Gandhi Medical College
The college was initially named as the Peoples Medical College and it was re-christened as Gandhi Medical College on 25th June, 1955. The GMC has an annual intake of 150 students in MBBS Degree Course and it also has 88 postgraduate seats including clinical, non-clinical and super specialty subjects. The college also offers 37 degrees in various branches of medicine. The beginning day of the Gandhi Medical College (GMC), 14th September, has been heralded red letter day for the advancement of medical education in India.

History of Gandhi Medical College
The government of Hyderabad took over the Gandhi Medical College in 1956, as it was going through tough financial conditions, and also started development works for the college. The college shifted its premises to Basheer Bagh Palace in 1958, from the previous location of Humayun nagar, near Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital. The college was again shifted to its present location at Musheerabad in 2003. There are numerous departments in the Gandhi Medical College (GMC), including the likes of Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine, Microbiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, and Social and Preventive Medicine.

Faculty of Gandhi Medical College
The Gandhi Hospital, adjacent to the Gandhi Medical College was established by some eminent philanthropists and was named as K.E.M. hospital in memory of King Edward VII. S. M. Fraser, in 1851 AD. The Hospital was renamed as Gandhi Hospital in 1958, and it also became the teaching hospital for the college. The Hospital was shifted to its new premises at Musheerabad in 2003.
